Bylaws

Article I : Name

The Club shall be known as the Southern New Hampshire Badminton Club.

Article II : Objective

The objective of this club shall be to promote and advance the sport of Badminton and friendship among club Members under the guidance of the YMCA motto of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Article III : Members

  • Section 1. Classification

    The club shall be composed of active and honorary members.
  • Section 2. Eligibility and Requirements

    A. Active Members Any individuals will be eligible for active membership upon recommendation by an active member and payment of membership. Active members attend meetings, vote upon all questions coming before the club, hold office, and pay dues. B. Honorary Members Honorary membership may be conferred upon persons who merit such distinction.
  • Section 3. Election of members

    The secretary shall present the list of individuals eligible for active or honorary membership for a vote.
  • Section4. Dues The annual dues for active members shall be $10. New members will be required to pay a one-time, non-refundable $20 registration fee for single member and $30 for family. Family membership will cost $20. Membership fee will be prorated depending on the time of collection. Members will pay the – Full fee if they join/renew the club membership within 6 months from the Annual meeting. Half fee if they join/renew the club membership within 6-9 months from the Annual meeting. Full fee if they join/renew the club membership within 9-12 months from the Annual meeting but won’t pay the next year. Existing members have upto 15th of March to renew their membership. Failure to do so, members will have to repay their registration fee. Additional contributions may be solicited from all members and will be greatly appreciated. Members in arrears will be deleted from the active list after 90 days. Members contributing $100 will be called Founding Members and the list of Founding Members will be printed on the Club stationery. The calendar year and the Club's fiscal year shall coincide for payment of dues and financial reports. Dues may be changed by a majority vote of the members present at an annual business meeting.
  • Section 5. Resignation of members

    Membership may be retracted by a two-thirds vote of the members.

Article IV : Officers

  • Section 1: Officers of the Club

    The officers of the club shall be: 1 President, 2 Vice President, 3. Secretary/Treasurer. These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by these bylaws. Only active members of this club in good standing shall be eligible to serve as officers. The officers together will appoint committees required for the better functioning of the club. The officers shall conduct regular reviews of member’s skill levels. The President – Shall preside at the meetings of the club, shall have the right to vote, approve all bills, sign all documents and papers, represent the club at the YMCA, as well as at other clubs. The Vice-President – Shall assist the President in the performance of club duties, maintenance of club website, new member initiation, and perform the role of the President in his absence. The Treasurer / Secretary – Shall keep records of all transactions of the club, collect all dues, make all payments, and receive all money raised by the club. A complete report of the financial affairs of the club will be presented at the annual session. At the completion of the term, all documents will be turned over to the successor.
  • Section 2: Election of Officers

    The election of officers shall occur at the annual meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor at the meeting. Incumbent Officers can self-nominate themselves for the next term if they meet the term limits described in ARTICLE IV – Section 3. Members wishing to run for officer’s position must self-nominate them at most 1 month prior to election. Election shall be by voice vote for uncontested elections; otherwise election shall be by closed ballot. Proxy vote by internet, telephone will be accepted only for nominated candidates.
  • Section 3: Succession and Term

    The term of office shall be for one year beginning at the close of the election. Incumbent officers can run for 1 additional term beyond which they will be deemed ineligible to contest for SNHBC officer positions.

Article V : Meetings

  • Section 1: Annual Meeting

    There shall be an annual meeting.
  • Section 2: Quorum

    Ten members shall constitute a quorum.

Article VI : Administrative Committees

The president shall appoint committees for communication, bylaws, schedule and play rules, fund raising, etc.

Article VII : Indemnification

The Club shall indemnify and hold harmless all officers and committee members now and hereafter serving and acting on behalf of the Club from and against all claims and liabilities for alleged acts, omissions or commission as an officer or member of a committee.

Article VIII : Parliamentary Authority

The rules contained in the current edition of Sturgis Code of Parliamentary Procedures shall govern the Club in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the Club may adopt. Article IX : Amendment of Bylaws These bylaws may be amended only at annual meeting by a two-thirds vote of the voting members present.
